Despite the rough roads the Northern Loop tour has become a bit of a classic. This is on account of the overwhelming scenery and the popular hill town of Sapa, an old hill station ( elevation 1,700 meters ) close to Chinese border.

Tour itinerary:
Hanoi - Mai Chau - Moc Chau - Son La - Lai Chau - Sapa - Hanoi
Day 1: Arrival - Hanoi

Warmly welcome at Noi Bai airport by our guide we then transfer you to hotel. For this day depending on your flight we will arrange a suitable city tour for you to get some first impressions of Hanoi - the capital. It can be the water puppet show, cyclo tour to the old trading quarter. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2: Hanoi - Mai Chau (B,L,D)

In our Jeep, we start from your hotel and hit the road through the infamous traffic of Hanoi . As soon we get out of town (a mere 10km), we will quickly find ourselves in the country life of Vietnam . Heading towards Hoa Binh Province , we pass through a region of spectacular limestone mountains, passess and valleys then wind our way downhill to Mai Chau valley of the Thai people. We will spend the afternoon to walk around the two connecting villages, learn more about the ethnic Thai people and finally experience their hospitality with a stay in their home on stilts. Enjoy dinner followed by traditional dances and a taste of the local rice wine, an experience in itself. Sleep well in preparation for tomorrow.

Day 3: Mai Chau - Moc Chau - Son La (B,L,D) .

We will drive about the same distances as we made in our trip to Mai Chau. The road to Son La is lined with orchids, tea plantation, towering mountains and chances to meet and talk to the ethnic black Thai, white Thai, Hmong and Muong hill tribe people. Many will be on their way to work or heading to one of the many local markets. In the afternoon we visit the Prison Museum in Son La which remains as a poignant reminder of the inequities of the former French colonial rule. Dinner and sleep at the Cong Doan Hotel.

Day 4: There are two options

Option 1: Son La - Dien Bien Phu (B,L,D).

Feel ready to drive to the colorful market of Thuan Chau with pleasant encounters with friendly tribal people at the market and villages along the way. Visit blue Hmong village at Phadin Pass. Lunch in Tuan Giao before making our way to Dien Bien Phu , you can see the former battlefield and the display of war scraps from battlefields. It was here that that French planned to lure the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh into the valley by sending of general Giap who somehow managed to place the Vietnamese artillery on the surrounding ridges. Overnight in Muong Thanh Hotel.

Option 2: Son La - Tuan Giao - Muong Lay (B,L,D)

Feel ready to drive to the colorful market of Thuan Chau with pleasant encounters with friendly tribal people at the market and villages along the way. Visit blue Hmong at Pha Din Pass. Lunch in Tuan Giao and then hit the highway No 6. We are sure this is the most beautiful scenery with the small stream blowing through the village. The road is a little bit rough, narrow. Our guide will take you some Thai ethnic villages to discover the way to plant the rice in the mountain.

Day 5: Dien Bien Phu or Muong Lay - Lai Chau - Sapa (B,L,D)

The road through the Lai Chau valley is both breathtaking and dramatic, hugging rice terraced mountain sides and fording turbulent rivers. On this day you will have a chance to see the most beautiful hill tribes in Northern Vietnam such as Hmong, Black Thai, Black Dao and Pazi. Visit the colorful market of Tam Duong and Binh Lu market . Continue our way through scenic Binh Lu pass where we have a bird's eye view to the distant villages, rice field and mountains. Wind up terraced hillsides to Sapa. Upon arrival Sapa, check in and explore the Sapa town. Overnight at hotel in Sapa.

Day 6: Sapa - Ban Ho (B,L,D)

Along the rice terraces through lush bamboo forest and local people including that of the colorful Dzao hill tribe and down to a rolling stream for a picnic lunch. After lunch continue trekking along the rice terraces, trails and dirty road into Ban Ho for an insightful night with your Tay hosts where you will sleep in the cosy loft complete with comfy mattress and a mosquito net.

Day 7: Ban Ho - Sapa - Lao Cai - Night train to Hanoi (B,L)

Short trek to the dirt road for the Jeep ride back to Sapa. Enjoy an afternoon to explore Sapa town, great shopping in the market for local produce and you can buy handicrafts from many of the local hill tribes selling their wares there. 6pm departs to Lao Cai station. 8.20 pm night train back to Hanoi 9 soft sleeper with air conditioning cabin.

Day 8: Hanoi - Departure (B)

Our guide will wait, hold the board under your name greet and pick you up to hotel for freshen up service. Our driver will transfer you to for departure.
