Overview

At an elevation of 1,600 meters, Sapa is a delightful former French hill station situated in the mountainous region of Vietnam's northwest, close to the Chinese border. The region is home to many ethnic minority groups, each wearing traditional and colorful attire. This trip includes a trek through the hills and valleys of the Sapa region, discovering several different minorities along the way. On the trip you will trek along Muong Hoa River sneaking through the valley nearby Sapa town, which is surrounded by huge rice paddy terraces. On the way you will learn more about how is the rice cultivating from when the seed sowed to harvested until being served as cooked rice on your dinner table. The night you spend in Ta Van village the unique village in Sapa area where Giay minority live, will be an excellent experience.

Itinerary in glance

Night 1: Night train to Lao Cai Station

Day 1: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van.

Day 2: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa.

Day 3: Sapa – Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Lao Cai Station – Overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 4: Arrive back to Hanoi.

Night 1: night train to Lao Cai Station (C,G)

South Pacific Travel’s bus and guide will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you for the overnight train to Lao Cai Station. Enjoy the experience the romance of overnight train travel

Day 1: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van (B, L, D).

We will take 1hr bus ride uphill to the beautiful town of Sapa. The ride give you a glimpse of the stunning vistas and impressive rice terraces. Upon arrival in Sapa Town we have breakfast in local restaurant and prepare for a great trek down to the picturesque valley of Muong Hoa. We will walk on small paths and trails to reach Lao Chai and Tavan Village to visit the Tay and Day tribes , where we will have unique homestay experience among hill tribe people. Picnic lunch on the way then keep going along the bottom of the Sapa valley. Dinner and overnight in the local house.

Summary Trekking: 15 km on dirt paths downhill – Moderate grade. Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner. Accommodation: Homestay

Day 2: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa ( B, L, D).

Once you get energy for your next day trek by having a delicious breakfast, you leave for Giang Ta Chai village of Red Dao minority. You will trek through bamboo forest which belongs to Hoang Lien National Park. On the way you will pass by a waterfall where you will have time to take a rest and enjoy surroundings. You will find a nice place to enjoy lunch. After lunch going up to the main road where you will be picked up by jeep. Ride back to Sapa and you might stop some times on the way to take photos of the fabulous valley of Sapa. Check in and have dinner in hotel. Enjoy the night in the mountain town. 

Summary Trekking:  12 km trek on dirt paths – Moderate grade Meals:   Breakfast, lunch and dinner Accommodation: Twin/Double shared room

Day 3: Sapa – Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Lao Cai Station – Overnight train back to Hanoi (B, L).

Sunrise breakfast and then check in your hotel, get  ready for our last trek. You first sneak through the market and leave the busy town behind. After a couple of minutes, you will follow a road going down hill to Cat Cat village. You will stop by a waterfall and a hydroelectric station. Take a rest here before you trek downhill to get Sin Chai village. Enjoy beautiful scenery on the way back to Sapa town for lunch. You will have free time to discover by yourself in the afternoon. Dinner is for your choice. Back to hotel for shower and then our car will transfer you to Lao Cai station for overnight train back to Hanoi 

Summary Trek:  8km 3hrs trek downhill. Moderate grade Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Transfer Sapa town – Lao Cai station: 45 minutes. Accommodation: Soft sleeper in AC cabin

Day 4: Arrive back to Hanoi.

You will arrive in Hanoi Station at around 5h30. Our tour finishes

 

Food

All meals which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. Picnic lunch would be prepared by a local restaurant. The emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious fresh local produce. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirement.

 

 

On the Northwest Mountain Villages tour, you will need to hike five or six hours per day along

a scenic valley to reach a small cluster of ethnic minority villages located in remote area around Sapa. Homestay is really highlights of tour that gives you unique experience to discover life and culture of ethnic minorities. Homestay in villages is simple in term of bedding condition and toilet, clean and located beside a spring with a good view. We will sleep on beds with mattress, clean sheet, pillows and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually flush-style. The hosts are very friendly and eager to please. Usually, the host family or guide will cook meals for you, but will not join in out of respect for the guests. If you prefer to them to eat with you, you need to ask the guide in advance to make the arrangements
