Overview

At an elevation of 1,600 meters, Sapa is a delightful former French hill station situated in the mountainous region of Vietnam's northwest, close to the Chinese border. The region is home to many ethnic minority groups, each wearing traditional and colorful attire. This trip includes a trek through the hills and valleys of the Sapa region, discovering several different minorities along the way. You will experience overnight accommodation in the hospitable villages of Giay and Tay ethnic minorities. The apparent hardships are worth it though as we walk through some of the most spectacular scenery that Vietnam has to offer and experience unique villages culture.

Itinerary in glance

Night 1: Night train to Lao Cai Station

Day 1: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van.

Day 2: Ta Van – Sapa – Silve waterfall – Heaven gate - Lao Cai Station  – Overnight train back to Hanoi

Day 3: Arrive back to Hanoi.

Night 1: night train to Lao Cai Station (C,G)

South Pacific Travel’s bus and guide will pick you up at your hotel and transfer you for the overnight train to Lao Cai Station. Enjoy the experience the romance of overnight train travel

Day 1: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van (B, L, D).

We will take 1hr bus ride uphill to the beautiful town of Sapa. The ride gives you a glimpse of the stunning vistas and impressive rice terraces. Upon arrival in Sapa Town we have breakfast in local restaurant and prepare for a great trek down to the picturesque valley of Muong Hoa. We will walk on small paths and trails to reach Lao Chai and Tavan Village to visit the Tay and Day tribes , where we will have unique homestay experience among hill tribe people. Picnic lunch on the way then keep going along the bottom of the Sapa valley. Dinner and overnight in the local house.

Day 2: Ta Van – Sapa – Silver waterfall – Heaven gate - Overnight train back to Hanoi (B, L).

Sunrise breakfast your car will take you back to Sapa town get ready for visiting Silver waterfall and Heaven gate. On the way you will experience the daily life of Vietnamese people in the suburb where most of fruit and vegetable are provided to Sapa area. You have time to enjoy the beautiful landscape, and the fantastic view from Heavens gate. From there you can see the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the lush forests belonging to Hoang Lien National Park. Your guide will explain about this special part of Sapa where many species are grown such as plum tree and squash. Following you will continue by car to drive uphill to Heavens Gate, the highest stretch of road in Vietnam as well as the provincial border of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces. Here you will have a fantastic opportunity to view the magnificent scenery. Back to Sapa town for lunch then the time for you to be relax and discover Sapa town by yourself. Dinner is your choice and then bus will pick you to train station for overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 3: Arrive back to Hanoi.

The trekking day
A typical trekking day start at about 8.30 am after breakfast. Lunch times can vary depending on the terrain. We aim to reach the next overnight stop by 4.30 or 5. During the trek we will have short breaks for rest, snack and photographing.  

 

Food

All meals which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. On this trip tour guide will cook dinner for you. The emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious fresh local produce. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirement.

On the Northwest Mountain Villages tour, you will need to hike five or six hours per day along

a scenic valley to reach a small cluster of ethnic minority villages located in remote area around Sapa. Homestay is really highlights of tour that give you unique experience to discover life and culture of ethnic minorities. Homestay in villages is simple in term of bedding condition and toilet, clean and located beside a spring with a good view. We will sleep on beds with mattress, clean sheet, pillows and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually flush-style. The hosts are very friendly and eager to please. Usually, the host family or guide will cook meals for you, but will not join in out of respect for the guests. If you prefer to them to eat with you, you need to ask the guide in advance to make the arrangements
