At an elevation of 1,600 meters, Sapa is a delightful former French hill station situated in the mountainous region of Vietnam's northwest, close to the Chinese border. The region is home to many ethnic minority groups, each wearing traditional and colorful attire. This trip includes a trek through the hills and valleys of the Sapa region, discovering several different minorities along the way. On the trip you will trek along Muong Hoa River sneaking through the valley nearby Sapa town, which is surrounded by huge rice paddy terraces.

 

On the way you will learn more about how is the rice cultivating from when the seed sowed to harvested until being served as cooked rice on your dinner table. The night you spend in Ta Van village the unique village in Sapa area where Giay minority live, will be an excellent experience.

Itinerary in glance:

Day 1: Hanoi arrival.

Day 2: Hanoi discovery – night train to Sapa

Day 3: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van.

Day 4: Ta Van – Giang Ta Chai – Sapa.

Day 5: Sapa – Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Lao Cai Station – Overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 6: Arrive back to Hanoi.

Arriving at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, you will be met and driven to your hotel. You will have time to relax after your journey before a ‘Welcome dinner’ at a  traditional restaurant with Vietnamese cuisine. In the evening, you will have tickets for a performance of traditional Water Puppetry, an art form unique to northern Vietnam, and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture. You will spend the night in Hanoi.

 

 

Day 3: Lao Cai Station – Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van (B, L, D):

Summary: Trekking: 15 km on dirt paths downhill – Moderate grade. Meals: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner. Accommodation: Homestay

 

 

The trekking day
A typical trekking day start at about 8.30 am after breakfast. Lunch times can vary depending on the terrain. We aim to reach the next overnight stop by 4.30 or 5. During the trek we will have short breaks for rest, snack and photographing.  

 

Food

All meals which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. Picnic lunch would be prepared by a local restaurant. The emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious fresh local produce. Please inform us if you have any special dietary requirement.

On the Northwest Mountain Villages tour, you will need to hike five or six hours per day along

a scenic valley to reach a small cluster of ethnic minority villages located in remote area around Sapa. Homestay is really highlights of tour that give you unique experience to discover life and culture of ethnic minorities. Homestay in villages is simple in term of bedding condition and toilet, clean and located beside a spring with a good view. We will sleep on beds with mattress, clean sheet, pillows and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually flush-style. The hosts are very friendly and eager to please. Usually, the host family or guide will cook meals for you, but will not join in out of respect for the guests. If you prefer to them to eat with you, you need to ask the guide in advance to make the arrangements
